Objectives of Energy Audits

The main objective of an energy audit is to enable you to save on energy input costs without compromising your day-to-day activities, the safety and comfort of the work environment. Specific objectives include.

  1. Identify and single out major energy consuming loads and establish their operational efficiencies & inefficiencies objectives include your stand in terms of energy costs (bench marking) compared to similar facilities of the same size & operation cycles.
  2. Identify exhaustively & quantify the available energy saving opportunities and design the most effective and economically feasible Energy Conservation Measures.
  3. Deliver an energy audit report with Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) implementation plan including budget costs and paybacks.
  4. To comply with the EPRA’s energy management regulation of 2012.

Government Regulation on Energy Audits

The Energy Management Regulation 2012 was enacted by the Ministry of Energy under Section 110 of the Energy Act, 2006 and is implemented by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). Under section 6 (1), facilities (Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Electricity Consumers) whose annual energy consumption exceeds kWh are required to conduct an energy audit once every three years and such audits must be conducted by EPRA licensed auditors.

By completing this process, not only will your facilities meet government regulations, but implementing our recommendations (ECM) will significantly reduce energy consumption, leading to substantial savings in operations and maintenance costs in addition to environmental sustainability.

Some of the systems we examine in detail during an energy audit, to identify energy saving opportunities and formulate energy conservation measures, include:

  1. Lighting Systems
  2. Electric Motors
  3. Compressed Air Systems
  4. Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Cooling Systems
  5. Fan, Blower & Pump Systems
  6. Boilers & Steam Distribution Systems
  7. Power Generating & Distribution Equipment
